Sony Xperia S

It’s been about half a year since Sony took full control of its mobile destiny, ponying up $1.45 billionto buy out Ericsson’s share of their joint venture. Sony’s been busily launching new Xperia Android phones ever since and they’ve generally been well received. The odd snag was to be expected, of course. Take the case of the Xperia S, the second Ericsson-free phone unveiled by Sony back in January.
Some Xperia S owners have reported that their beautiful 4.3-inch 720 x 1280 pixel displays have gone a touch yellow. The discoloration only occurs if the phone in question is exposed to temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius, however, so unless you’ve really been giving its 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor a workout or pulling down loads of data over a 3G connection, you may not have noticed any issues yet.Sony has admitted that there is indeed a problem, though they say that it’s limited to a small number of phones. They’ve pinned the source of the yellowing displays down to a glitch during the manufacturing process which was quickly corrected. If your Xperia S has been affected, fear not: Sony has promised to make the necessary repairs. Chances are good that you Xperia S is still well within its warranty period anyway, but should you happen not to notice your screen going a bit jaundiced until early next year you’ll still be covered.
